The New York State Thoracic Society was founded in 1950 as the New York Trudeau Society. It was named after Edward Livingston Trudeau, MD, who was the first American investigator to culture the causative agent for tuberculosis (tubercle bacillus). The Society honors his name through a lectureship at its annual meeting in January. The society's Chapter Administrator is located at the American Lung Association in New York's offices in Hauppauge, which also provides administration.
The Society is overseen by an Executive Committee comprised of its officers and committee members. The Executive Committee conducts the ongoing Society business during the year. The American Lung Association in New York serves as the fiscal agent for the Society.
