Freedom From Smoking Clinics

Quitting smoking is the single most important thing anyone can do for their health. With more than 10,000 smoking related deaths in New York City each year, seven out of ten smokers say they want to quit.

The American Lung Association of the City of New York is committed to providing services to help New Yorkers kick the habit and stay off cigarettes for the long term. The Freedom From Smoking program combines group support, education and behavior therapy techniques to help you learn the necessary skills to kick the habit and stay smokefree!

Most recently, we have made FFS available in the workplace! The ALACNY sends a facilitator to run the FFS clinic at your company, or we train an employee at your company to run the clinic themselves. Either way, your company has the ability to offer a convenient quit smoking program to invest in the health of its employees.

A nationally-developed program, Freedom From Smoking is a tried-and-true method of helping people quit smoking. The program includes seven, one-hour group sessions led by an expert who understands the challenges of becoming smoke-free. The facilitator uses a positive behavioral change approach to deal with issues like weight control, stress, withdrawal and resisting the urge to smoke.

We provide the materials, a CD, and additional support through the Lung HelpLine (1-800-LUNG-USA), where medical professionals are on-call to coach you through the cravings.
