CALL FOR CAMPERS! Free Summer Program for Children with Asthma!
The American Lung Association is accepting applications for the SuperKids Summer Experience, a FREE summer program, for children with asthma. The SuperKids Summer Experience program provides asthma management learning for children between the ages of eight and 11 in three communities: Harlem, Central Brooklyn and the South Bronx. At the SuperKids Summer Experience, children will enjoy swimming, games, arts and crafts, all while learning how to manage their asthma and improve their overall health.
WHERE:
• Harlem, in partnership with Harlem Hospital Center, at the Pelham Fritz Recreation Center at Marcus Garvey Park
• Brooklyn, in partnership with Kings County Hospital Center, at St. John’s Recreation Center
• The Bronx, in partnership with Lincoln Medical and Mental Health Center, at Hunts Point Recreation Center
WHEN: July 7th - August 1st
Monday – Friday, 9 am - 1 pm.

Join the Fight for Lung Health at the BREATHE NYC: Asthma Walk 2008
The fifth annual BREATHE NYC: Asthma Walk 2008 was a great success! 4,500 of you joined us and raised $450,000 to support the fight for lung health. Thank you to all walkers and everyone who contributed to this year’s Walk! It is not too late to donate. Our goal of $500,000 by June 30th, 2008 is well within reach. Remember, everyone who raises $350 or more will enjoy an all-inclusive 3 day/2 night Mexican Getaway Vacation, including airfare! You can make a difference in the fight against asthma and lung disease!
Camp SuperKids Provides Summer Fun for Children with Asthma
This year's Camp SuperKids will be held from Monday, August 11 to Friday, August 15, 2008 at Fairview Lake Camp in Newton, NJ. For more information and to request an application, click here. Space is limited, and registration deadline is July 15.

Tobacco Tax a Win for All New Yorkers

The American Lung Association of the City of New York Awards Research Grants
Congratulations to the following two researchers who have been awarded ALACNY research grants! Grants for their work in the arena of pulmonary health will begin in July 2008.
-Daniel Jeremy Kass, MD, Columbia University Medical Center: Dr. Kass will be researching pulmonary fibrosis, a condition in which scar tissue builds in the lungs, impairing their ability to function.
-Rui Jian, MD, PhD, Columbia University Medical Center: Dr. Jian will be investigating cured meat and its impact on lung health.
